Dolmabahçe Palace, Constantinople
Additional Details:
Palais de Dolma-Bagtché. Dolmabahçe Palace is a palace situated in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey, on the European coast of the Bosphorus strait. It was the main administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1887 and 1909 to 1922. The palace complex consists of several buildings, including the main palace, the Harem section, the Clock Tower, and the Treasury. The palace was built by Sultan Abdülmecid I between 1843 and 1856, replacing the older Topkapı Palace as the primary residence of the Ottoman sultans. The palace's architectural style is a blend of Ottoman, Baroque, and Neoclassical elements, reflecting the empire's increasing Westernization during the 19th century. |
