ON MOLOKAI.
In this beautiful spot the United States government has
spent nearly half a million dollars trying to solve the problem
of this most dreaded disease.
In no place in the world has leprosy received the
scientific study that it has in Hawaii, and it is hoped that a
serum will soon be discovered that will bring relief to many
thousands that are suffering from the disease which has
baffled physicians since the dawn of civilization.
Buildings begun in 1907.
Station opened for reception of patients, 1909.
Original appropriation for buildings, $100,000,00.
Equipment and maintenance to date, about $350,000,00.
