Pair of Gouldian Finches, Chicago Zoological Park
Additional Details:
Two Gouldian Finches perched on a branch. An outline map of Australia is shown in the lower right corner. This beautiful little bird is often bred in captivity. The females are duller than the males but it is not unusual for both red- and black-headed birds to come from one nest. More rarely a yellow-headed variety occurs. In nature it builds a bottle-shaped grass nest in various places and lays five to eight white eggs. |
