Additional Details:
The Missouri River water contains practically no vegetable or other decomposible matter, but carries a large amount of clay sediment which is settled as soon as the water is placed into the basins and becomes clarified by degrees so that when it finally is taken from the last basin into the pumping house again it is quite clear and potable. From the lower end of the basin the water is again elevated by the pumps and forced into a high 9,000,000 gallon reservoir 307 feet above the river, situated about six miles from the pump house and from this reservoir it runs into the city, maintaining a uniform pressure, varying with the elevation of each respective locality.
