A view of the flooded Mississippi River in the Quad Cities during the Great Flood of 1993. The floodwaters have inundated River Drive and surrounding areas. A partially submerged monument and traffic signals are visible. A sign for "Iowa Pork Stop" is mostly underwater. Relentless rains in June & July forced "The Mighty Mississippi River" and its tributaries to record high water levels. The Mississippi's predicted crest of 22.2 ft. on July 4, along with continuing rains the following week, brought a new crest of 22.63 ft. on July 9, breaking the previous record set in 1965. Preliminary estimates reveal over $10 billion in damage to homes, businesses, farms and crops in the Midwest.
