Additional Details:
The classic Shinto shrine of the third century B.C. — considered the purest model for Japanese architecture — served as model for the original Japanese Pavilion. The style is known as "Shimmei-zukuri". Simplicity and the arrangement of horizontal lines convey an impression of purity. The structure as a whole, because of its proportions, makes a noble spiritual effect, not unlike that of a classic Greek temple.
