JAPANESE PAVILION
New York World's Fair 1939
The classic Shinto shrine of the third century B. C.
considered the purest of original Japanese
architecture served as model for the Japanese
Pavilion. The style is known as "Shimmei-zukuri".
Simplicity and the arrangement of horizontal lines
convey an impression of purity. The structure as a
whole, because of its proportions, makes a noble
spiritual effect, not unlike that of a classic Greek
temple.
