The world's most gorgeous and expensive key, designed
and made by Arthur A. Everts Co., Dallas jewelers-where it
is on permanent exhibition. Used to officially open the gates
of the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition. The center diamond,
the Queen Maria Luisa, weighs nearly 14 carats; there are
over 200 other diamonds in the key as well as rubies, em-
eralds. sapphires, zircons, amethysts, Texas azure topaz,
Texas pearls, star sapphire, onyx from Davy Crockett's birth-
place, and a festoon of Oriental pearls. Applied in four colors
of gold are stalks of corn, a prairie schooner, cotton boll, oil
derrick, steer's head, the Alamo, state seal, La Salle's ship
and General Houston's sword. The six Texas flags are in col-
ors. The key is nine inches long, over one pound gold weight.

The Everts Lock for the gates of the 1937 Greater Texas
and Pan-American Exposition; 22 inches long, with 21 dia-
mond-set gold keys set with over 1000 gems. Map of the
Americas in four colors of gold. Every capital city is a dia-
mond. The discovery ships are on diamond waves. Small
duplicate diamond keys were presented as a friendly gesture
from Texas and the U. S. to the presidents of the 21 Pan-
