ROY ROGER'S
APPLE VALLEY INN POOL
Apple Valley is located a short distance from the desert town
of Victorville. John C. Freemont was in this area in April of
1844 and wrote in his diary of the "strange and singular"
yucca forests and the fields of flowers. The valley was trav-
eled by the Indians, Spanish and the Mormons. Today
western type homes cover the land. The Inn is where the
action is for all the High Desert Country. Kit Carson and
Jedediah Smith traveled over this desert in their travels. It is
said that there is an underground lake as large as Lake Tahoe.
The Mojave River flows along the edge of the valley, an up-
side down stream as it runs underground as much as above. It
flows north (most rivers in the United States flow south) and
it has no outlet . . . M.P.
