KERNVILLE (Whiskey Flats), California
A number of small resorts are found along the banks of the
Kern River. One of the larger is Kernville. The town of
today is a new town located a couple of miles above the old
town site, covered by the waters of Isabella Lake. The Old
town was named Whiskey Flats by Mr. Hamilton who, in 1885,
opened up the first store and saloon which was merely a plank
laid across two whiskey barrels...M. P.
