earned his troops the name of
"foot cavalry."
Jackson's Valley
Campaign
supplied the lean Confederacy
with captured materials of
war. His victories resulted
in many Union troops being
withheld from the first sus-
tained campaign against
Richmond, for the defense
of Washington, D. C.
