The heroic exploits of Hernando de Soto, gallant
Spanish Conquistador of the 16th century, are viv-
idly portrayed at Bradenton, Florida, each year
during March in a week long festival. Authentically
costumed "Conquistadores" re-enact the landing of
the first expeditionary force to explore what is now
the southeastern section of the United States. De
Soto National Memorial Park at Bradenton is main-
tained by the United States Park Service to denote
the historical landing site.
