Old Sugar Mill Chimney Ruins, Homosassa Springs, FL
Additional Details:
Black and white photo of the ruins of an old sugar mill chimney in Homosassa Springs, Florida. A wooden fence surrounds the ruins, and a sign identifies the site. The sign reads: OLD SUGAR MILL CHIMNEY At the outbreak of the war between the states in 1861, David Yulee was the US. Senator from Florida. His sugar cane plantations along the Homosassa River were destroyed by Federal gunboats, which came up the river. Here was the site of one of the smaller mills. In less than a hundred years the jungle has all but obliterated any trace of former civilization. |
