THALHIMERS DEPARTMENT STORE Richmond, Virginia Thalhimers, founded in 1842, became the first aluminum-clad department store in America at the completion of its 1955 expansion and remodeling program. Thalhimers, known as "the fashion store of the South," is also noted for its Fine Food Shop, its Young Virginian's and Home floors, its Men's Store and its complete Family Thrift Basement. A new restaurant, soda fountains, Men's Soup Bar and Snack Bar provide all types of foods. Thalhimers has stores in Winston- Salem, North Carolina, and Danville, Virginia.
