The Wild Duck or Mallard (anas boscas) is a resident
of the eastern counties of England, though their numbers
are considerably increased by winter migrants. They
possess webbed feet, being water-birds, and are invariably
found on or near to water. From this breed is derived the
ordinary domestic duck. The normal length of the bird is
24 inches.
