The Orpheum Theater was constructed in 1922 on the northeast
corner of First Street and Broadway in Wichita, Kansas. It was said
to have been the most important vaudeville theater in Wichita and
was known for its excellent facilities and acoustic properties. Many
first-rate movies were also shown there through the years. There came
a time when the lights were turned off and the building was vacated,
but in recent years it has been revived and restored by the Orpheum
Performing Arts Centre, Ltd, a not-for-profit organization. The
historical Orpheum is today the venue for special events.
