PIKES PEAK FROM PILOT KNOB
Thus
One of the surprising feats of modern building
is the cog railroad, built from Manitou to the
summit of Pikes Peak. The elevation at the
point where the road begins is 6,309 feet.
summit is 14,109 feet above sea level.
the cog road climbs nearly 8,000 feet in its
journey to the summit, which covers a distance
of about fifteen miles. The picture shows the
road as it scales the lower parts of the moun-
tain, with the snow-capped peak, its ultimate
goal, visible in the distance.
