SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' MONUMENT
Indianapolis, Indiana
Located in Monument Circle, in the heart of the
downtown area, it is the third highest shaft in
America. It memorializes four distinctive events in
the history of Indiana; The Revolution, The War
with Mexico, The War of 1812 and The War for
the Union. It has an observation platform located
near its 2842 foot peak, which is reached by an
elevator. A Museum occupies its basement. It was
completed in 1901.
