Please join with us in our October 26th, 1974,
recommendation that a commemorative stamp be is-
sued in 1978 to honor "the father of the comic strip,"
Richard F. Outcault.
Letters should be sent to your U. S. Senators
and Congressman with your views on such an Out-
cault stamp. They can forward your views and their
own views to the U. S. Postal Service.
In September 1928 the New York Times wrote
that Outcault "fashioned what we now know as a
'comic strip,' though its humor was contained in on
rectangle and the title was 'Hogan's Alley.'" Also, "to
few men has there been vouchsafed the inventive gen-
ius to father an enduring public taste."

mittee, The Queens Historical Society, Kingsland House-Mus-
eum, 143-35 37th Avenue, Flushing, L. I., N. Y., 11354.
