Arab Woman and Child. The average Arab
infant does not indulge in the elaborate cradles and
comforts amidst which the European child grows up,
but is frequently lulled to sleep in an old basket slung
on ropes. The Arab women are in the habit of
converting all their available riches into personal
ornaments, which they wear constantly, and it is no
unusual thing to see the inhabitant of a poverty-stricken
house literally loaded with personal jewellery.
