The Parthenon, at Athens, was built on the
Acropolis, 438 B. C., and dedicated to the god-
dess Athena. She was the wisest and most
beautiful of Grecian deities, and the Parthenon
was her temple. It was built at the instance
of Pericles, king of Athens. The Parthenon at
Nashville, in Centennial Park, is the result of
years of research and study on the part of
architects, artists and archaeologists.
It is the only exact reproduction in the
world of the Parthenon at Athens. In the base-
ment is housed the famous Cowan Collection
of Art, a cross-section of the best in American
Art.
