The State flower of Utah. The Sego Lily was adopted as the Floral Emblem of Utah by legislative enactment March 18, 1911. The early pioneers of Utah had a struggle for existence for a few years. Their vegetable diet was made up, for the most part, of the roots of the Sego Lily and other native roots and greens. It was for this reason as well as for the rare beauty of the flower that the Sego Lily was chosen as the state floral emblem.
