The Pentagon, headquarters of the Department of De-
fense, is the world's largest office building. Its shape is
that of a regular pentagon and is composed of five rings
separated by three open courts and a roadway, all concen-
trated about a pentagonal inner court. Its total covered
area is 6,500,000 square feet. The building covers 34
acres and has 171/2 miles of corridors.
