In 1777 this house sheltered Delaware troops of the American Continental Army, and in 1779-80 during the coldest winter of the Revolutionary War, it served as headquarters for General George Washington. Col Jacob Ford, Jr., Patriotic soldier, powder mill owner and iron manufacturer of Morris County, built the mansion about 1772-1774. |
