Additional Details:
Augusta County, established November 1, 1738, was originally the largest county ever organized by the English-speaking people. It embraced all of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and large sections of Virginia and West Virginia, and was named for Princess Augusta. William Beverly, granted 118,000 acres in Augusta, known as "Beverly Manor", built the first court house in 1745. Four others have since been erected on almost the same spot, with the stately building pictured built in 1901.
