This is the two mile by four mile historic island of Key West, originally purchased by John Simonton of the United States from Don Pablo Salas of Havana, Cuba. Key West became a city in 1828. It was previously a haunt for wreckers, pirates and fishermen. The view is from Old Mallory Square in the foreground, from the Gulf of Mexico in the north to the Atlantic Ocean in the south. |
