FROM THE BOTANICAL GARDENS
The beautiful Capitol building stands on the
crest of a hill, dominating all Washington. Its
site was chosen by Major Pierre Charles L'En-
fant, because it seemed to him that this hill,
88 feet above the Potomac River, was "a ped-
estal waiting for a monument.'
