than any system of locks and canals in the world.
Ships pass the Sault on an average of about 100
per day in a normal season, 3000 per month and
25,000 during the eight months of navigation.
The Weitzel Lock is 515 feet long and 90 feet
wide; the Poe Lock 800 feet long and 100 feet
wide; Davis Lock, 1,350 feet long, 80 feet wide,
and has a draft over miter sills of 261/2 feet;
Sabin Lock is of the same dimensions. The
Davis and Sabin Locks are 250 feet longer than
