WYOMING ELK HERD Wyoming possesses the World's largest elk herd. From Wyoming's herd of 35,537 in 1952, hunters bagged 11,814. 1961 harvest was 11,422. Although hunters consider the elk (wapiti) hardest to bag of North American animals, he can become quite trustworthy of man when fed concentrate.
