Historic Macon is located near the site of
an Indian Village which was in existence two
centuries before Columbus came. This village
site is now owned and has been developed
by the National Park Service as the archaeo-
logical center for the Southeast. The magni-
ficent Museum Building at Ocmulgee National
Monument contains displays from excavations
of historical and pre-historical interest.
