The Royal Arches are near the head of Yosemite,
in the vast vertical wall, whose summit. is North
Dome. The Arches are deep recessed curves in the
granite wall, very impressive because of their size.
Washington Column, the angle of the wall at this
point rises 1,952_feet above the floor of the valley.
The great South Dome, or Half Dome as it is called,
rises nearly 5,000 feet from the foot of the valley.
