GOVERNMENT LANDING. Newport is an important naval
station, and here we find a War College, a Torpedo Station
and a Training Station. The U. S. men-of-war congregate
frequently in this vicinity for various purposes, and the
landing is used by officers and crews in going to and from
their ships when the fleet is anchored off Newport.
