National Monument to the Forefathers. On a pedestal 45 feet high, rests a statue of "Faith" 36 feet in height and weighing 200 tins, said to be the largest piece of granite statuary in the world. It took 30 years to complete the monument-the corner stone was laid in 1859 and the memorial dedicated in August 1889. The subsidiary figures represent Morality, Law, Freedom, and Education. |
