The Chickamauga Dam was started in 1936
and completed in 1940 at a cost of $38,700,000.
It is one of a series of dams built by the T.V.A.
for navigation, flood control and production of
electric power on the Tennessee River. It is 129
ft. high and 5794 ft. long with a reservoir area
of 37,200 acres extending 59 miles upstream.
