"CLIVEDEN"
"Cliveden" at Johnson St. and Germantown Ave.,
was built by Chief Justice Benjamin Chew in 1761.
Occupied by a detachment of British troops during
the Battle of Germantown, Oct. 4, 1777, it broke the
American advance, successful up to that point. Scene
of a public reception to Lafayette in 1824. Still
owned by the Chew family.
