57. INDEPENDENCE HALL, WHERE THE
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE WAS
SIGNED, PHILADELPHIA, PA.-The hall is
located on Chestnut street, one of the principal
thoroughfares of Philadelphia. In this hall on
July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence
was adopted by Congress and read to the people
assembled on Independence Square. The Con-
tinental Congress assembled here and Wash-
ington was here chosen Commander-in-Chief in
1775. The building is now used as a museum of
relics connected with the history of this country.
