The Barnum & Bailey greatest show on earth. This extremely rare 1896 poster of the Barnum & Bailey circus advertised the appearance of the Charles Duryea "horseless carriage". The circus provided many Americans with their first glimpse of an auto. However, the car was treated much as a freak, little knowing that the automobile would someday revolutionize the world and someday drive the circus from the streets of America. This poster is part of the vast collection of Circus Americana found in the Ringling Museum of The Circus. |
