PIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA
Pierre is on the east bank of the Missouri
River. It was settled in 1880 and was named
after Fort Pierre, a fur trading post on west bank
of Missouri River.
South Dakota became a state in 1889 and
was the 40th state admitted to the United States.
