NEW MEXICO STATE CAPITOL
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Here the old meets the new, and Indian, Span-
ish, and Anglo-American cultures merge in one
of America's most picturesque and historic
regions. Santa Fe, for example, has the nation's
oldest capitol (the Palace of Governors, built in
1609) and the newest capitol. Yet Santa Fe was
not the first capital. Ruins of an older one are
across from San Juan Pueblo near Espanola.
This view shows the new round capitol build-
ing built in the shape of "ZIA" - the Indian
Sun Symbol.
