Northeast Rotunda, University Of Virginia
Additional Details:
The Northeast Rotunda, modelled after the Pantheon of ancient Rome, is the central building, though not the first erected. Begun in 1823, the portico was not finished until after the death of the founder, Thomas Jefferson (1826). It is approached by fourteen steps, giving an imposing beauty to its handsome portico, 50 by 28½ feet, supported by ten columns 28½ feet high. |
