Erected in 1884 in memory of the humble baker
woman who toiled all her life for the orphans of this city.
It is claimed that this is the first statue of a woman erect-
ted in the United States. "They are all orphans, said
Margaret, and in her will no orphan asylum was for-
gotten, regardless of creed.
