Settled about 1775, incorporated in 1785, the County Seat of Fairfield County was named for Col. Richard Winn, Revolutionary officer and early town father. First settlers came from the coastal States between Pennsylvania and North Carolina and added to by a group from the Low Country of S.C. Occupied by British troops under Lord Cornwallis in 1780 and partially burned by Sherman in 1865. |
