Hunting Island Lighthouse

| Established in 1859, the old Beaufort County lighthouse is the island's third. Out of operation for over 30 years, the present structure was completed in 1889. The first structure was destroyed during the Confederate War. The second structure, one fourth mile inland, was soon unsafe due to sea erosion and moved 1ΒΌ miles to the present site. The lighthouse is open to the public. |
