Fort Sumter National Monument

FORT SUMTER NATIONAL MONUMENT Charleston, S. C. Fort Sumter was the scene of the opening battle of the Civil War. After a 36 hour siege the fort, commanded by Major Robert Anderson and his Union troops, surrendered.
