Connecticut River Valley, Gillette Castle

| Rock outcroppings along the river edge at Gillette Castle at Hadlyme, Conn., show one shape called "Shops Stern". Mr. Gillette at one time had a summer house built there and trails connected the main house to this area. Due to the cost of maintaining the perilous footpath with trestles and thins this trail has been closed, temporarily we hope. Laurel abounds in spring. Look for this when you pass by on a pleasant river boat excursion. Geologists like to study the rock formations in this area. |
