"The Star Spangled Banner." the National Anthem of the United States, was written by Francis Scott Key, poet and patriot on Maryland while detained by the British aboard a ship of Fort McHenry. His inspiration came when in the dawn early light he saw the nation's flag still. Among triumphantly over the fort. The Kay Monument in Baltimore is one of the several handsome memorials erected to Key. The original flag is now in the National Museum at Washington.
