Belle Isle Park contains about 700 acres and has cost Detroit including bridge leading to it about $2,000,000. It has beautiful lawns and Florida displays, also many miles of driveways and canals. It has a Zoo, Horticultural Building and Aquarium. Refreshments are served at both Casino and Pavilion. It was bought from the Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for eight barrels of rum, three rolls of tobacco, six pounds of vermilion and a belt of wampun, by Lientenant Mc Dougall in 1769. In 1879. 110 years after ward it was sold to Detroit for $200,000.
