Additional Details:
Founded September 8, 1771. This was the fourth of twenty one missions established in California. Located in beautiful San Gabriel Valley about nine miles east of Los Angeles, the mission was noted for its abundant crops and was the first supply station after crossing the mountains and desert. This road called "El Camino Real" (The Royal Road) extended from Guatemala to San Francisco. The bronze bells served as markers in California.
