Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The latest of a series of American people to occupy the Yellowstone and Bighorn Basins is the Crow Tribe. This is their homeland. Much of their culture and language is still intact. A centuries-old tradition of the Crow people requires them to come together once a year far a great meeting. Now the Crow people invite Indians of all tribes to join them at the Crow Fair. this celebration is held at Crow Agency during the their week of August. Dancing is a popular activity at the fair. There are competitive dances such as the stylized "Straight" dance. Participants are judged on performance and regalia. The flower motif of the beadwork evolved since the Reservation period. |
