Continental Memorial hall is the only buildings in the world built and planned by women. It is the home of the Society of the Daughters of the American revolution, which has a membership of nearly 70,000 women of the purest American strain. Delegates come great distances yearly to attend the continental Congress, on which occasion the President of the United States always greets them. It is an incorporated body, making an annual report to the Smithsonian Institution and officially recognized by the Government. The building is of white marble and cost $350,000. |
