With the new Library building finished, Springfield will have
a city library that will compare favorably with any in the country
for beauty of design, capacity and convenience. It will easily
accommodate 500,000 volumes. The cost will be $300,000
ready for use; $150,000 of this is donated by Andrew Carnegie.
It fronts 223 feet on State Street and is 87 feet deep. The
materials used are white marble with white terra cotta frieze,
and green tile roof.
